Advanced methods for installing cables

Technology is rapidly transforming how cables are installed - both in trenches and in tunnels.

When laying cables in the countryside, the cable runs can be installed using continuous trenching machines with cable being unwound behind the trench.

Modern tunneling techniques allow tunneling machines to burrow through the ground, building up the tunnel walls behind them. This direct drilling technique allows cables to be installed under sensitive areas without any surface disturbance. In addition, because the tunnels can be bored deeper than an economically-viable trench, magnetic fields above the cable run can be very low, even without shielding.
